Kwaheri
Rafikis...
This is it.
I can't believe it.
Today was our last day at Pongwe Primary School, and I've got to say I'm still a little choked up.
In the past couple of weeks, we've had such a fantastic experience working with Mohamed, the contractors, the teachers, and finally the students of Pongwe to make this project a success. I really can't believe it's coming to a close.
*Please excuse me, I get overly emotional*
We came to the site expecting to exchange our final good byes today before our safari, as well as to see our building one last time...
...What we didn't expect, however, was to see how far the building has come in our last day! The contractors came to work early at 6 and pretty much gave the building a massive makeover.
We got a new pathway to the entrance...
...we've got tiled floors and walls...
...and we've got the first sinks and toilets installed in!
Even Cheralyn "I hate surprises" Salone has had to change her opinion!
As a parting gift, we brought soda to all the workers to take home with him! We then took our final pictures with our new Tanzanian family, and said our final, emotional Kwaheris to the men who been so patient with us. Our greatest wish was to see the toilets become fully functional by the time we leave but we can be absolutely happy with the work done so far. We'll be anticipating the pictures/videos of the completed bathroom with great excitement!
At night, Safia and the girls were given gifts of their own for all the work they've done for us! They've done an absolutely stellar job cooking and cleaning after us and simply making our hostel feel like a second home. For our final dinner, we feasted on pizza and samosas (two of our favorite things on this trip). I'll spare you the gory details, but pretty much imagine what happens when a lion sees a group of wildebeests. That is what the PUC team did to those pizzas.
And now my friends, we are off to see actual lions and wildebeests on safari in the Serengeti and Ngorogoro! You can bet we'll be taking pictures.
For now, toota onana. See you later.
Asante Sana,
The PUC Tanzania Team
