LIFE ON THE FARM
Marahaba!
The PUC Tanzania team had a big day today, as we finally reached the top level of bricks for the building. It actually is starting to look like a building now!
The best part about today was seeing all the kids coming back to school again after the long weekend. They surrounded us from the beginning of the day and we'd try to communicate with them as best as we could. We learned that "Shikamo" is another way of saying hello, but only to elders or people you respect. I had a sneaking suspicion that the kids knew more english than they let on, and that was pretty much confirmed when they counted to twenty in english for us. We wish we knew as much swahili as they do english!
Besides finishing the laying of the bricks and hanging out with the schoolchildren, we began the constrution of our first tippy tap! A tippy tap is a basic handwashing system that we're implementing in front of the cafeteria and the bathrooms.
Low point of the day: Being almost attacked by a cow
Highlight of the day: NO RAIN!
SWAHILI PHRASE OF THE DAY:
Saadi fundi, tafadhali maji udongo: "Laborer, can I have more mortar please?"
